Development Program U9/U10
Program Details
This program is for any 8 to 10 year old player. While incorporating fewer games into sessions than our Junior Skills (U8) program, focus is primarily given to skill development and execution. Our curriculum incorporates fun challenges and multi-skill combinations to continually challenge players as they work through a series of exercises that introduce basic to advanced 1v1 foot skills. Focus is also given to increasing proficiency in core skills and correcting bad habits. Players work in an environment where they are encouraged to be creative and to gain confidence in using a variety of skills. This program is intended for all players, from new to soccer to competitive level-players.
Player development goals:
- Players can perform lower intensity activity for at least an hour.
- Speed and endurance activities are included to train and enhance the development of the energy systems.
- Technical development form a large focus of training and players are encouraged to practice at home informally and skills such as juggling and ‘freestyle’ moves are encouraged.
- Correct technique is emphasized to complement the development of neural pathways.
- Sessions progress into small sided games/activities — 2 v 1 and 3 v 2 with a neutral player playing for the team in possession is an excellent way to introduce introductory tactics.
- Creativity in practice and games is encouraged and rewarded.
- Different learning styles are accommodated, so different coaching methodologies are employed.
- Praise and reward effort to create many opportunities for success.
- Positive coaching focusing on strengths that promote confidence and self-esteem.
- Set goals and high expectations for all players.
- Encourage players to engage in unstructured physical play
- Players are working on flexibility, speed, endurance and strength. Strength activities should be using their own body weight, Swiss Balls and Medicine Balls.

What equipment is needed
Shin guards, soccer cleats are recommended (tennis shoes are okay) and a soccer ball (optional), size 4 or 5. We will supply everything else.
