Our Four Corner Model

We assess players holistically, looking at the four key areas that make a complete soccer player.

Technical: Skills on the Ball

  • Ball Control: A player’s ability to receive and handle the ball effectively with various surfaces (foot, thigh, chest).
  • Passing Range & Accuracy: Executing short, medium, and long passes (including swerve passes and crosses) with precision.
  • Dribbling & 1v1 Ability: Confidence in running with the ball and using feints or turns to beat opponents.
  • Shooting Technique: The ability to strike the ball with power and accuracy using different techniques (instep, volley, half-volley).

Tactical: Reading the Game

  • Positional Sense: Understanding one’s role in attack and defense within the team’s formation (pressure, cover, balance).
  • Decision-Making: Making smart choices with and without the ball, such as when to pass, dribble, or shoot.
  • Spatial Awareness: Recognizing and creating space for themselves and teammates; understanding team shape.
  • Game Intelligence: The ability to anticipate plays, read cues, and adapt to changing game situations like counter-attacks.

Physical: Athletic Attributes

  • Speed & Agility: Includes acceleration, top speed, and the ability to change direction quickly and efficiently.
  • Balance & Coordination: Maintaining control of one’s body during complex movements, both with and without the ball.
  • Stamina & Endurance: The ability to maintain a high level of performance and work-rate throughout the entire match.
  • Strength: Core and functional strength to compete in physical challenges like shielding the ball, tackling, and jumping.

Psychological: The READY Mindset

  • Relentless: A strong work ethic and a desire to improve. Is coachable and applies feedback.
  • Excellence: High levels of focus and concentration in training and games. Strives for high standards.
  • Aspirational: Shows confidence and resilience, bouncing back positively from mistakes or setbacks.
  • Diverse & Yours (Teamwork): Communicates well, supports teammates, and contributes to a positive, inclusive team environment.

The Evaluation Process

1

Ongoing Observation

Our coaches continually assess players during every training session and match, providing real-time feedback and guidance.

2

Formal Assessments

Twice per season (semi-annually), we conduct formal evaluations using a standardized framework to ensure consistency and fairness.

3

Player Profile Report

The results are compiled into a clear report that highlights strengths and identifies specific areas for development across the Four Corners.

4

Feedback & Goal Setting

We meet with players (and parents for younger age groups) to discuss the evaluation and collaboratively set achievable goals.

What a Profile Looks Like

An evaluation provides a snapshot of a player’s current abilities, helping to identify areas of strength and opportunities for growth.
