The 4 Core Pillars of Safe Sport

Every sideline protocol and background check is anchored in four safety pillars established to safeguard youth athletes and provide an empowering athletic culture.

1. Screening & Vetting

Comprehensive police background checks with Vulnerable Sector Screening (VSC) through Sterling or local police services renewed every 3 years. Ensures no disqualified individual gains proximity to youth players.

2. The Rule of Two

Eliminates any isolated one-on-one scenario between an adult coach and a minor athlete. A minimum of two screened, NCCP-trained adults must oversee locker rooms, medical treatment, travel, and digital messages.

3. Concussion & EAP

NCCP Making Head Way provides mandated concussion recognition and graduated Return-to-Sport guidelines. Every Ignite SC venue has an active Emergency Action Plan with mapped 911 access corridors.

4. Canada Soccer MA2 Standards

Ignite Soccer Club enforces 100% coach compliance as a strict condition for match day participation, provincial tournament sanctioning, and maintaining Canada Soccer MA2 Club Licensing standing under Soccer Nova Scotia.

Ignite SC Operating Protocol

Rule of Two: Practical Field Implementation

Standardized Supervision
Locker & Changing Rooms

Two screened supervisors must monitor entry and exits. Coaches do not shower or change in the presence of minor athletes. One coach must never remain behind alone with a player.

Travel & Vehicle Transport

A coach should never transport a single minor player unaccompanied unless that player is the coach’s immediate child. If transport is necessary, a second coach or parent must accompany the trip.

Digital & Electronic Chats

All electronic communications (email, SMS, TeamSnap) must copy a second screened coach or include the athlete’s parents/guardians. Direct 1-on-1 private messaging with minors is strictly prohibited.
